Tell us about your professional career

Since leaving high-school it feels like I have gone through an extensive collection of jobs – all of them dog-related.

I started out working full-time for the local dog-day care. I especially loved working with down the dogs that suffered separation anxiety once their owners had left.

As a side-gig, I got my dog walking certification. After work, you would find me walking four dogs around the local neighborhood – not an easy task in winter.

Next I worked as a secretary for a local dog training company. I didn’t really enjoy it since It didn’t allow me to work with dogs directly. However, it did give me plenty of opportunities to learn from the various trainers who also worked there.

The natural progression from here was dog sitting. It was a lovely change of pace to only work with one or two dogs at a time.

One of the owners I sat for worked at the local newspaper. He asked if I would like to write a weekly column on pets, answering reader questions. I did and enjoyed every moment of it – my passion really shined through.

It was here that DogLab discovered me. They asked if I would be interested in leveraging my extensive dog experience to review toys and similar products.

In a heartbeat, I said yes. And after a trial, I was offered a full-time position. I’ve been here since and can’t imagine anything else I would love to do more.

What’s your favorite part of the job?

My dog is toy obsessed, and a large part of my job is testing and reviewing dog toys. It makes me so happy each time I see him excitedly test a new toy.

What’s your least favorite part of the job?

I keep discovering new products that I absolutely must buy for my dog. Those costs quickly add up!

Check out my adorable doggo! This was a hard picture to get, he doesn’t stay still for long!

Banjo, Amanda's Jack Russel Terrier

Name: Banjo

Breed: Jack Russel Terrier

Age: 6 years old

Loves: Burrowing in the snow

Hates: Vacuum cleaners

Funny Story: Banjo is a toy thief. The worst occurrence was when he stole a football from a group of young boys playing in the local park. His sharp teeth punctured it, and I ended up giving them money to buy a new one.

Last Remarks…

It was fun to introduce my dog and tell you more about myself. I look forward to seeing you around the DogLab website.
